Flower Beds

Garden beds can be the most definitive and rewarding part of your landscape. Simple or elaborate flower gardens are often divided into annual beds, perennial beds and mixed beds that are changed with the seasons. The most beautiful and productive gardens beds are the result of planning the size, shape and location. In South Texas it is important to select  plants and blooms that are well adapted to our climate. Milberger’s is your best source of bedding plants and flowers with fresh stock arriving on a regular basis and the best plants for the season put on sale weekly.

Xeriscape

Xeriscape is a common-sense, drought tolerant, high quality form of landscaping that protects the environment and conserves water. Many plants that are native to South Texas thrive in a xeriscpe. Xeriscape landscapes need not be cactus and rock gardens. They can be green, cool landscapes full of beautiful plants maintained with water-efficient practices. The same green Texas-style landscape which we are accustomed to can be achieved and still conserve water.

Raised Bed Gardening

A raised bed makes gardening easy. Filled with soil mix, they provide the excellent drainage needed to grow picture-perfect vegetables and flowers. Raised beds allow early warming of soil in the spring, better water drainage for plants, easier bending for the gardener, and easy ways to organize planting spaces into square foot sections. Because soil isn’t packed from walking on it or working with mechanical equipment, it absorbs and retains water more effectively and makes it easier to collect and discard weeds. Crops stay off the ground and are easier to pick. Successful Raised Bed Gardening.

Hardscape

Hardscape or "hardscaping" consists of the inanimate elements of landscaping, especially any masonry work or woodwork. Landscape is what you see, hardscape is what you use. For instance, stone walls, concrete or brick patios, tile paths, wooden decks and wooden arbors would all be considered part of the hardscape. But by extension, anything used in landscaping that is not part of the softscape can be considered a hardscape element, including home accents such as water fountains, installation art and lawn art. A hardscape design requires little to no water to survive.
